A cognitive assessment can provide a family, teachers, and health professionals with information on your child’s overall thinking capacity and areas of strengths and weaknesses. It is often used to diagnose an Intellectual Disability, and as a starting-point for identifying appropriate supports for a child having difficulties in the classroom or at home.
School Age Educational & Cognitive Assessments
We are here to help
Does your child have difficulty at school?
Would you like to know if your child would be suitable for a selective school?
Has your child’s teacher recommended having their learning needs assessed?
What is Involved?
The psychologist will meet with you to collect information including the child’s medical background, current behaviours, and copies of any previous reports from health professionals. Sometimes you will be asked to complete an Adaptive Functioning Assessment during this meeting. This is a questionnaire that provides a detailed picture of the child’s abilities in their daily life. The Psychologist will then meet with the child to complete the cognitive assessment (1-1.5hrs).
You will be provided with a report detailing the results of the assessment and have a meeting with the Psychologist to discuss the results, their recommendations for your child, and answer any questions you may have.
